Most EA games are now available only via Origin, so you pretty much have to use this client if you want to play them. In the end, your personal preference is often not a factor when deciding which launcher to use. If you have to choose between platforms, Origin is a safe bet If there's an annoying feature that you want disabled, chances are there is an option for it. Among other things, you can select your preferred home screen, limit download speed, enable or disable cloud saves, and manage notifications in-depth. Managing your library is a walk in the park, you can browse for games on the store, manage your downloads, chat with your friends, and even stream to Twitch directly from the app.Ĭustomization options are also quite impressive. Once you get past all the Origin Access ads, you will find a well-built, intuitive and feature-rich game launcher. If there are non-Origin games that you would like to launch with this app, you have the option of adding them to your library. You aren't limited to just EA titles though. Given the number of franchises under EA's control, you certainly have plenty of games to choose from. Game launchers may be popping up everywhere, with various publishers trying to take advantage of their monetary potential, but EA's distribution platform has been around for quite a while and is already an established name. Launcher for Electronic Arts games and even other titles Origin for Mac offers everything you would expect from a game client, such as library management, access to the store, cloud saves, social features, an in-game overlay, and more. Nevertheless, there are plenty of EA titles to keep Mac users entertained, and the desktop app is quite capable. Plus, most other EA titles are only available for Windows anyway so I don't think it's a big deal unless if you want TS3 or TS4 to play through the Vault.Origin has been available for Mac since 2013, admittedly with a much smaller game library than what you get on Windows. I probably wouldn't think it would be a major problem for Mac Simmers since the only popular EA titles that do support both Windows and OS X are The Sims 3, The Sims 4, and SimCity 2013 and I'm pretty sure most Simmers own The Sims 3 and/or The Sims 4. That means if The Sims 3, The Sims Medieval, and The Sims 4 are on the Vault, you will not be able to play them despite those games supporting OS X on Origin. That means that Mac users won't get the Vault, being able to play upcoming EA games before release as well as the 10% discount.įurthermore, only Vault games and First Trials are playable on Windows. OK, maybe not that last one, but you get the point.įirst EA does this with 1.69 not being ported to OS X, and now with Origin Access is unavailable on OS X. Plus, members can play upcoming EA games before they're released for a limited time, and score an automatic 10% discount on Origin purchases, including full games, pre-orders, DLC, FIFA points, and kitchen sinks. Membership unlocks The Vault, a growing collection of great PC games you can download and play as much as you want. Origin Access is an all-you-can-play membership service for PC gamers.
